Every new thing
A downloadable game
A Golem stirs. Clay limbs creak as ancient bindings pulse with borrowed life. But they are not alone.
You are the voices that guide this lumbering form through a world that is bright, and loud, and strange.
Every moment brings new sensations. The world presses in and each moment awakens something in the clay. Its Mind is an ecosystem where your needs intertwine like roots beneath soil. When the Golem encounters the world, you must negotiate between your body’s competing demands.
- A twenty-sided die
- Clay or plasticine
- Pencils
- Paper
- 60-90 minutes
- and 3-6 friends
Players select one of six playable Aspects:
- Hunger
- Sleep
- Curiosity
- Fear
- Comfort
- Joy
Then use clay or plasticine to sculpt their image of the Golem, inspired by the essence of their Aspect.
Each round, the Mind consults the Things and Weirdness tables to determine and narrate what the Golem encounters.
Example:
- Thing: A device with a pulsing light...
- Weirdness: It tastes tart and vaguely of despair...
- State your drive
- Explain your reasoning
- Address other Aspects
- Vote on the outcome using pieces of your Golem.
As your journey unfolds, create memory fragments to refer back to.
When it's all over: share, describe, and discuss the journey, and whether you believe the Golem has achieved consciousness, and what that means.

Oh wow! This is so intriguing!
We actually have 3 kilos of clay laying around. I will definitely play this in the coming weeks. Can't wait to get my hands all clay-y!
The way you splintered the golems consciousness into aspects and asigned them to the players is so smart. I have been wanting to design a drawing game where all players embody the same character. This inspired me to work on that idea again.
Beautiful!

Thanks so much Sleepy! Beatrixe pitched this ideas of Aspects, and like you, I fell in love with the idea. It feels more human to me somehow that the players are put in a position to compete for their Aspect's needs, while also taking into consideration the Golem's (collective) well being.
I would be thrilled if you would share some photos of your groups Golems if and when you do get around to playing!
And best of luck with your drawing game. Judging by some of your previous submissions, I'm sure it'll be a banger :)
